In the summer of
2005, Italian-American filmmaker Danny DeLorenzo traveled
to the southern region of Basilicata, the birthplace of his
paternal grandparents, Gerardo DeLorenzo and Caterina
Nucito. He arrived in the small town of Corleto Perticara
unannounced and presented himself at the municipal office,
where he was immediately embraced as a family member come
home.
Through a series of introductions with various townspeople,
Danny was reunited with direct descendants of his
grandfather's brother, an event that was captured by both
the filmmaker and his longtime collaborator, photographer
Emanuele Luca. Those images - along with family and
archival photos - were eventually used in a short film that
Danny presented to his father, who had never seen his
parents' hometown.

The emotional effect of the film was so powerful for both
father and son - and others who viewed it - that Danny
began making similar pieces for other Italian and
Sicilian-Americans who had never been fortunate enough to
see the birthplace of their ancestors.
